Welcome to Morpurgo Class

We hope you’ve all had an enjoyable Easter break and are refreshed ready for your last term with us at South Petherton Juniors!

The first half of this term our focus will be revision of our skills in reading, SPaG and Maths; this is in preparation for SATs, week beginning Monday 8th May.

After SATs, in English, we will be focusing on Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and taking part in drama activities before rewriting the opening in our own way. We will then move on to look at a film called ‘Alma’ and be inspired to write creative setting descriptions and also a sequel to the story.

In Science, we are learning about evolution and how animals and plants are adapted to their environments.  This will link to our Geography work about climates and biomes – with a particular focus on South America. We will then move onto looking at classification keys and micro-organisms – including creating an experiment about bread and how it grows mould!

In Design Technology, we will be sewing pencil cases, creating culinary dishes linked to our work on South America and also making leavers’ photo frames.

In the second half of the summer term, our history work will be about The Ancient Maya civilisation. Music will be linked to creating performances for our Year 5/6 production and RE will further explore the Christian faith – looking at the meaning of Agape.

It’s certainly going to be a busy and creative end to the children’s journeys here at SPJS!

Please remember you can talk to myself or Miss Cowley if you need to on the playground at the end of the day or via the office mailbox:

We are really looking forward to this term’s activities!
