We hope you’ve all had an enjoyable Christmas break and are refreshed ready for an exciting term!
Our main focus for English this half-term will be a visual literacy unit based around a short animation called ‘The Piano’. We will be focusing on a variety of language techniques to create descriptive writing. Our work on improving our understanding of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar will continue and weekly comprehension sessions will focus on answering questions in written form, both clearly and succinctly.
In Maths, we are revisiting arithmetic methods for all four operations, including using fractions, decimals and percentages in these. We will be learning about how to calculate angles, create graphs and also begin to understand basic algebra.
In our topic work, we are learning about our British Hero – Emmeline Pankhurst – interrogating Primary and Secondary sources and forming our own research about her life.
In RE, the main focus will be Christianity – especially Salvation and Easter.
In Science, we are learning about our heart and the circulatory system.
In Art, we are looking at two artists – Lubaina Himid and Pablo Picasso. We will focus on drawing people using the correct proportions and create portraits in the style of both artists.
Our school-wide Jigsaw topic for this half-term is called ‘Dreams and Goals’, where we will use mindfulness and circle time activities to explore the children’s impact on the world and how they can make a difference. During this term, we will also be celebrating Children’s Mental Health Awareness week and Safer Internet Day.
This term, each child will receive weekly Homework activities in their revision books for Reading. SPAG and Maths.
Please remember you can talk to us if you need to on the playground at the end of the day.
We are really looking forward to this term’s activities!
