Morpurgo Class

Mrs Deem
Welcome to Morpurgo Class

It’s been so lovely to have everybody back in the classroom.  All the staff who work with our class have been so impressed with how quickly all children have settled into Year 6; we are now looking forward to getting to know each child more, watching everyone blossom during their last year at South Petherton Junior School.

Our main focus for English for this half-term will be based around our class author, Michael Morpurgo. We will be studying a variety of his texts and exploring the language he uses during English sessions.

In Maths, we are developing our place value knowledge, understanding numbers up to ten million and using formal written methods for all four operations.

In our History work, we are learning about the Viking Invasion of Britain and during our residential we will undertake more Viking activities during our stay like building longboats and learning a Viking saga.   Hinduism will be our topic in RE and ‘light’ in our Science work, including shadows and light sources.

Jigsaw, mindfulness and circle time activities will allow the children time to reconnect with each other after the summer holidays.  Our school-wide jigsaw topic for this half-term is called ‘Being Me’; where we will all be discussing our goals and worries for Year 6 and the children’s rights and responsibilities.

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Berry our specialist music teacher to our school and Year 6 are looking forward to their weekly music lesson and singing assembly with her.

PE will be on Thursday and Friday each week.

Our weekly schedule can be found in the class handbook, where you will also find the homework expectations and timetable for the school year. Please remember you can talk to me if you need to on the playground at the end of the day or via the Morpurgo Class mailbox:

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone take the extra responsibilities of Year 6 in their stride; including the role of Year 3 buddies, House Captains, School Council Representatives, Head Boy and Head Girl.

Keep being superstars!
