Safeguarding
All children have a fundamental right to be protected from harm and can expect schools to provide a safe and secure environmemt. Schools must comply with the statutory duty within ‘Safeguarding Children & Safer recruitment in Education 2007’ to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children by:
Providing a safe environment and taking reasonable measures to minimise risks of harm
Providing arrangements to take appropriate action to address concerns relating to the welfare of a child
At South Petherton Junior, there are clear policies such as Health & Safety, Behaviour, Anti-Bullying, Medicine and Confidential Reporting. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is the Head teacher, Mrs Catherine Walker, the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) is Mrs Anne-Marie Gordon and there is a Nominated Governor. There is also support and guidance from the Somerset Safeguarding Children Board. The school has adopted their model Child Protection policy and this can be viewed within ‘Policies’.
The Designated Teacher for Looked After Children (LAC) is Mrs Catherine Walker.
