SEND

This is our SEN rationale at South Petherton Junior School:

We are committed to equal opportunities.
All children can learn and make progress, if only in very small steps.
All teachers are teachers of children with Special Educational Needs.

The school SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-Ordinator), Miss Charlotte White, is a well qualified and experienced teacher who is responsible with the Head Teacher, Mrs Catherine Walker, for the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN Policy. There is an SEND Governor who meets regularly with the SENDCO and liaises with the Governing Body to ensure all statutory duties regarding SEN are met.

Please contact the SENDCO via the School Office – 01460 240172.

Our SEND Policy reflects the SEN Code of Practice (June 2014) which came into effect on 1st September 2014. Further details of our ‘School Offer’ can be read on the SEN Information Report link below.

In September 2014 the Children and Families Act 2014 introduced the Local Offer as part of the SEND Reforms. The Local Offer required all Local Authorities to create, in one place, information on services and provisions that they expect to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people (birth to 25 years old) with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. In Somerset this information can be found here.
